Meet the Rejewelry Competition Artists
HOW IT WORKS:
Juror-selected applicants purchased RJM donation materials through a private Rejewelry store to create a suite of jewelry. During NYC Jewelry Week 2023, the Rejewelry Competition works were exhibited at Bario Neal in Brooklyn NY where Rejewelry participant Moniek Schrijer was announced as the competition winner.
Following the NYCJW, Alma’s in Richmond, Virginia hosted a second exhibition of the Rejewelry Competition works.
AWARDS:
The competition winner receives a solo exhibition at Alma's in Richmond, VA, as well as, an invitation to join the RJM Artist Project, which has ongoing exhibition opportunities.
ABOUT THE JURORS:
About Sarah Mizer and Almas:
Sarah Mizer is a gallery owner based in Richmond, VA. She and her husband opened Alma’s in 2019 as a mixed use space that focuses on contemporary craft practices. The space hosts a rotating exhibition schedule and maintains inventory from over 60 artists in the fields of Craft. Prior to opening Alma’s, Mizer was an internationally exhibiting artist and curator. With a background in glass, she earned her MFA from VCUarts and her BFA from The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Both as an artist and a gallerist she has worked with academic institutions, museums, private and public collections. Within the past year, Alma's has placed multiple works into museum collections and managed a major public art commission.
About Sarah “Spee” Parker:
Sarah “Spee” Parker is a Richmond-based sculptor and jeweler. She received her MFA from the Department of Craft/Material Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and her BFA at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Sarah’s sculptures, installations and jewelry focus heavily on americana, punk, DIY, anti-containment, and questioning authorship through the lens of craft. Spee is part of the Radical Jewelry Makeover Artist Project. She is a current teaching fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a recipient of the Baltimore Jewelry Center Emerging Artist Residency. She has exhibited regionally and has been a member to several DIY exhibition spaces in both Boone, North Carolina as well as Richmond, VA.
