RJM XV: South Florida, 2020
In 2019 Lighthouse ArtCenter education director Maria Tritico invited RJM to come to Tequesta, Florida to work with students in her community on an RJM project installment. Together we invited the Armory Art Center and Resource Depot (West Palm Beach, FL) to create a larger, inclusive South Florida Project installment. Lighthouse ArtCenter, Armory Art Center, and Resource Depot became institutional members of Ethical Metalsmiths. Maria Tritico, Lisa Johnson, Chelsea Odom, and Alicia Boswell utilized the RJM toolkit and led the planning effort throughout the course of 2019. The South Florida Donation Drive began in the Fall 2019. In January 2020, the Lighthouse Art Center hosted a Sorting event where donations were assessed and coupons to donors were distributed. The next day there was a Kick Off symposium and all students and participants from the institutions attended. RJM co-director Kathleen Kennedy led these events. Participants worked on pieces through the end of February 2020. The pandemic postponed the exhibition until spring 2021. 110 people donated jewelry to this project and participants created over 200 pieces of madeover jewelry.

The RJM South Florida exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Maria Tritico. Maria was the primary collaborator and impetus for the South Florida Project. She was the Director of Education at the Lighthouse ArtCenter, talented metalsmith & jewelry artist, caring therapist, and dedicated teacher. Her life ended tragically on December 7, 2020. She would have been so proud to see this exhibition come to fruition.
