In the summer 2023 the RJM Midwest project began their donation drive. This is a large and widespread project with multiple culminating exhibitions planned for early 2024. Additionally, smaller exhibitions are planned for each participating institution, which will feature Madeover work in each locality.

Directors Susie Ganch and Kathleen Kennedy led an RJM Sorting over two days, September 15-16, 2023, at Indiana University Bloomington.

Students from Earhlam and Ball State attended, as did Sarah Holden and Nora McCarthy from Gallery 2052 in Chicago.  Bowling Green State University  and Western Michigan University joined in remotely.

Gallery 2052 hosted their own sorting event on October 8th, 2023 for The Chicago Professional Artist Edition of 'Radical Jewelry Makeover'.

Students and professionals spent the remaining months of 2023 using these donated materials to create new Madeover jewelry. On January 19, 2024 Indiana State University Bloomington hosted an RJM Symposium alongside their gallery opening and jewelry sale. Speakers will included:

  • Susie Ganch and Kathleen Kennedy, RJM directors

  • Ryan Peterson, PhD Student, Indiana University - Bloomington

  • Christina Miller, Christina T Miller Sustainable Jewelry Consulting (Ethical Metalsmiths founder and RJM co-founder).

  • Barbara Paris Gifford, Associate Curator at the Museum of Arts and Design

  • Student Presentations

  • Keynote speaker, and McMinney Visiting Artist: Curtis Hidemasa Arima, Associate Professor and Chair of the Jewelry and Metal Arts Program, California College of the Arts, and EM Board Advisor.

Madeover Jewelry was on display, and for sale January 19-March 2, 2024 at the Grunwald Gallery of Art.

Additionally, Gallery 2052 hosted an exhibition of madeover jewelry created by professional jewelers from around Chicago.  This featured 28 local artists and opened on May 3, 2024, with a  closing reception in August during the Chicago Responsible Jewelry Conference.

Sorting for Indiana University Bloomington, Earlham College, and Ball State University was one of the largest we have seen in the history of RJM. In fact, this is the first project we have weighed the total precious material before sending it off to various institutions.
